Ministry Highlight: YL Capernaum

We are finally catching up after our final camp trip of the summer! Our campers in Young Life Capernaum (our ministry for students with disabilities) experienced a week of God's unconditional love for them while enjoying everything the camp's beautiful property has to offer. Campers got to experience a taste of abundant life through camp activities each day, including a Disney themed day, pool party, talent show, and so many more fun events. Each morning the whole camp got to experience a club specifically catered to Capernaum students with songs, games and an incredible camp speaker. During the week, everyone at camp got the opportunity to memorize John 3: 16. It says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Throughout the week, the leaders and buddies had time to process what this scripture meant to the campers. During one cabin time, the campers had the opportunity to write and draw a letter to God. Each camper used their own drawings and words to thank God for sending Jesus to die for us. One of the campers from Cleveland West Shore wrote a beautiful letter to God. In this letter it said, "Dear God, thank you for Rockbridge. Thank you for sending Jesus to die for me. Thank you for the food. Thank you for my family." It's pure and genuine words like those that make God so happy to call us his own.

After camp, Madeline, our new part time Capernaum staff, set up a time to get dinner with the students from camp. She received two different texts from parents that really solidified that the relationships built while at Rockbridge would be lifelong friendships. One text read, "Rachel has been telling everyone...'I'm going to dinner with my friend, Madeline.’" Another text read, "Ryan has been talking about going out to eat all week! After we got the email yesterday saying he had been accepted into college, he said, ‘I'm going to celebrate with Madeline, Graham, and Rachel tomorrow night!’" Capernaum club and campaigners will each occur once a month on Thursday evenings if you’d like to be a part of this awesome ministry in Young Life Cleveland West Shore.
