High School Campaigner Overnight

Campaigner Overnight. February 9-10, 2019
You would think we'd get tired of Sawmill Creek Resort in Huron, but somehow we don't. Just two weekends after our committee/ leader weekend there, we came right back, but this time with some of our high school friends. "Campaigners" is the name of the weekly bible study each community has, where students have a safe space to learn about their faith and ask questions. Students that attend campaigners range from go-getters who practically serve as volunteer leaders with us all the way to students who know almost nothing about the Christian faith but came because a friend invited them. At campaigner overnight, we had just that mix, and it was incredible to get them in a room with 150 other students from all over northern Ohio who are asking the same questions and dealing with the same challenges as them.

One story: A freshman student (we'll call him Andrew) from Lakewood, who is very new to Young Life and wouldn't have claimed to have a relationship with Jesus, brought a friend with him who the leaders hadn't even met yet. He brought his friend because that friend was struggling in his faith after the passing of a family member. Andrew, who didn't really know Jesus himself, thought it was important enough to bring his friend and get to work through those doubts with him. They heard several staff from our region open up the Bible and talk about how Jesus is with them in their lives today through the good and bad situations of life. Both of those students are starting to come to campaigners now and are bringing a few more of their friends to our first Young Life club (outreach) event tonight, so they can hear about the God who loves them deeply. Stories like these are why we do what we do in Young Life.

Romans 10: 14-15How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"
