Young Life Training - Alex Meyers
Have you ever had the
chance to meet the author of one of your favorite books? Until early January, I
hadn't, but I heard from friends' experiences that it can add a whole new
significance, as you get a personal look behind the writing of the book. I
finally had the opportunity to experience it firsthand at a one-week intensive
seminary course provided by Young Life, called "Introduction to the New
Testament."
Mark Strauss, our professor,
not only has authored several textbooks as a professor at Bethel University but
was actually on the translation committee for the 2011 New International
Version (NIV) Bible. It was impressive to see his handle on not just his own
textbook, but on the Bible, as we dug deep into the New Testament. One of my
favorite parts of the course was breaking down Paul's main missionary journeys
and seeing how each influenced his writings to various churches. What really
stuck out the most was that the Bible was not just an academic text to him, but
the living, breathing Word of God, and it was clear he knew that Author
personally. I hope that every time I open up the Bible with someone, they have
the same feeling, that I had just spent time with the God who wrote the Bible;
who wrote the world into creation, and who writes our names in heaven.
Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that
the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in
heaven.” (Luke 10: 20)
